Xbox 360
The new contender in the home gaming platform arena is here. Sony’s Playstation 3 due out November 17th, just in time for the Christmas time crunch. The new contender to Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Nintendo’s Wii, Sony’s PS3 has implemented some new technologies that were not available for the Xbox 360, such as the new Blu-ray Disc. Blu-ray is a new technology to hit the industry and is the next step in digital media technology. It can hold at least 5 times the data that your standard DVD can hold 25GB on one single-layer disc and then 50GB on one dual-layer disc. Even with the new Blu-ray tech. in the PS3, you can still read and watch your older DVD’s like you were able to with the PS2.
The PS3 comes with several new features that it’s predecessor didn’t have like a built in 20 GB hard drive, Bluetooth 2.0 and Bluetooth wireless controller that can connect up to 7 different items (mainly controllers), internal Ethernet 10/100/1000Base-t for those online games to play with or against other people, 4 USB ports; that’s up from PS2’s 2 ports; and twice the RAM, from 128 to 256.
The PS3 also comes in an upgraded version for those people who want to use the PS3 for more than just a gaming console. For an additional $100, you will get a larger hard drive, going from 20GB to 60GB, Memory Stick/SD/CompactFlash slots and Wi-Fi. So, depending on how hard you plan on using your PS3, you just might want to consider spending that additional $100.
If you own a PSP, some of the games will go cross-platform. You can use the PSP as a remote control for the PS3. Plus, as an added feature, you can transfer content from the PSP to PS3 via Memory Stick or USB. What’s even more, is that for some games, you can even hook up your PSP to the PS3 and use it to your advantage and make it a rear view mirror for those driving games.
As of October 19th, Sony already had a list of 20+ game titles that will be among the largest number of titles ever released for a new platform. New game titles will be released both from Sony and from third party vendors, Resistance: Fall of Man™
NBA 07, Genji: Days of the Blade™, Blazing Angels™, Squadrons of WWII – Ubisoft,
Call of Duty® 3 – Activision, EA Sports™ and Fight Night Round 3 - Electronic Arts are but just a few releases that will be available for the new powerhouse.
So be prepared to spend a pretty penny to get Sony’s new pride and joy of the home gaming platform this Christmas. Also, don’t forget a memory card and other accessories
